Our Assessment Approach

At Amaze, we believe that accurate, thoughtful assessments form the foundation of meaningful support. Our approach is built around understanding each child as a whole - not just through testing, but by listening, observing, and partnering closely with families, educators and other therapists.

1

Initial Parent Consultation

We begin by meeting with you (the parent or caregiver) to gather background information, understand your concerns, and learn more about your child’s history, development, strengths, and daily routines. This conversation helps us build a fuller picture of your child and ensures the assessment is focused on the areas that matter most to you and your family.

2

Assessment & Observation

In the second appointment, your therapist will spend time with your child using a combination of approaches, which may include screening tools, interactive tasks, communication activities, and play-based observation. With your permission, we may also gather brief insights from educators or other professionals outside of the appointment.

3

Parent Feedback & Planning Session

After the assessment, we’ll meet with you (either in person or via telehealth) for a parent-only feedback session. Your therapist will explain the results in clear, accessible language, and work with you to set meaningful therapy goals based on your child’s strengths, challenges, and your long-term priorities. If a written report is required, it will be quoted based on the time and level of detail involved.

Our Report Options

At Amaze, we recognise that every child’s needs are unique, and the way we document their progress must reflect that. Reporting is a key part of our service, providing families, schools, and other professionals with clear, actionable information about your child’s strengths, challenges, and recommended supports.

To best meet your goals and budget, we offer several types of reports, each designed to suit different purposes and levels of detail. Whether you need a brief summary for a referral, a focused report on a specific area, or a comprehensive assessment for diagnosis or funding, we will work closely with you to identify the most appropriate option.

All reports are prepared with care, based on thorough assessment and collaboration with you and your child, and are provided with transparent estimates and agreed-upon pricing.

Single-Page Letters

A brief letter can be provided to support referrals to other professionals or services. These are typically written following your child’s first appointment and summarise initial impressions and recommendations.

Standard Reports

Standard reports focus on a single area of concern (e.g., speech, language, feeding) and include assessment data and tailored recommendations.

Comprehensive Reports

Comprehensive reports offer a deeper level of detail and are often used for complex profiles, school-aged assessments, formal diagnoses, or funding applications (e.g., NDIS). These reports require significantly more time and are tailored to the child’s needs.
