Tania Balil

Registered Music Therapist

Tania is a registered music therapist with over 20 years of experience, dedicated to helping children and families grow, heal, and thrive through music. She began her musical journey studying piano in Barcelona, Spain, before graduating from the University of Queensland in 2004 with a degree in music therapy. Furthering her expertise, she completed a Graduate Diploma and a Masters in Creative Arts Therapy at MIECAT in 2008.

Her experience is wide-ranging, having worked in aged care, disability services, and school-based therapeutic settings. Tania spent eight years supporting refugee and asylum-seeking youth in high school and seven years working in a primary school supporting children from diverse, often traumatic backgrounds, including those identifying as neurodivergent. Her trauma-informed and neurodivergent-affirming approach uses music as a companion to build connection, communication, creativity, and self-expression, guided by compassion, creativity, and a deep commitment to nurturing each person’s potential.

Beyond her therapy work, Tania is a passionate performing artist. She sings and plays music both as a soloist and with her band, directs the Latin Choir Brisbane, and produces the Crowd Choir, as well as conducting her own private practice. A lover of animals, she is a proud mum to her cat, Bobby, and a devoted grandmother to two teenage girls.
